Atif Butt and Awais Honey Make Pakistan Proud
By Sairam Hussain Miran 30 Oct, 19
Two Pakistanis who are relatively new to the international gaming scene have made their country proud on the global platform recently. Atif Butt from Gujranwala and Awais Honey from Lahore, both well established in the local e-sports scene, participated in the Tokyo Tekken Masters Tournament which was held from 26th to 27th October 2019 at NAMCO Future Research Institute, Tokyo.
To our delight, Atif and Awais beat all their competition from Japan and other countries to reach the finals, and in the end, it was an all-Pakistan dominated final between the two! The capability of both the players can be indicated by the fact that they have both beaten Arsalan Ash in local tournaments, who is regarded as Pakistan’s most famous and competent e-sports player.
After a close final between Atif and Awais, Gujranwala’s hero Atif Butt came out the winner and claimed his first-place trophy, along with a hefty $5500 USD cash prize. However, Awais Honey did not return empty-handed too as he managed to clinch the runners up trophy and a $2700 USD cash prize.
The cash prizes for the Tokyo Masters Tournament were as follows: (It’s a very lucrative career, gamers!)
1st place: $5,500
2nd place: $2,700
3rd place: $1,300
4th place: $1,000
5th place: $500 (per player)
7th place: $250 (per player)
It is also pertinent that this was the players’ first international tournament, as their Phillipenes Visa got rejected in the recent past. Even on this successful Tokyo tour, they had to go through a tedious visa process and immigration issues when they arrived. Despite that drawback, they still managed to win what was a very competitive tournament. That in itself speaks volumes of their mental strength!
The entire team at Gamelist congratulates Atif Butt and Awais Honey, what they have accomplished is no easy feat to attain. They have set up a new benchmark for the entire gaming community in Pakistan and have certainly won a fresh new set of fans.
