Surprisingly, the series will be written by co-written and produced by Neil Druckmann, who originally played a crucial role in devising the game itself. Usually, the game creators are not given such impactful roles in adaptations, but it is certainly justifiable and appreciated by the gaming community, considering Druckmann’s genius in creating the ‘Game of the Decade.’

Moreover, Druckmann will be teaming up with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazini to produce the series. Needless to say, this partnership of two of the best in their respective industries is unlikely to disappoint. To name a few more names involved, the adaptation will be produced by Carolyn Strauss, along with Evan Wells, who is the President of Naughty Dog. Therefore, it is safe to say that the key personalities involved in bringing us Last of Us will remain essential in producing the TV series.

The show will apparently replace the movie that had been in the works for long. The production is set to include the main story line of the Last of Us game, and perhaps additional elements from the unreleased Last of Us II. This will also be the first production by PlayStation Productions, which is a new film and TV division formed just last year.

The backbone of this production certainly lies in effective chemistry between Druckmann and Mazini, therefore, it is a relief to see that they both admire each other’s work. Award-winning Chernobyl creator Mazini was quoted calling Druckmann, “without question the finest story teller working in the video game medium.” Druckmann has also praised numerous projects that Mazini has been involved in.

The Last of Us pioneered in 2013, and has since conquered the industry by winning numerous Game of the Year Awards and breaking records because of its exhilarating storyline. One of many Award show examples is the 14th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards, The Last of Us won Game of the Year, Best Design and Best Narrative. The game’s sequel, The Last of Us II comes out May 29th 2020.

It would not be an overstatement to call Last of Us the game of the decade. Can the TV Series fill these massive shows?
