Call of Duty: Warzone has proven to dominate the rest of the Call of Duty series video games by hitting 75 million downloads in less than 5 months, so of course Activision would want to develop a new addition to the Call of Duty series whose title has just now been revealed. The title of the upcoming next video game in the Call of Duty series has been finally confirmed to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. It is a first-person shooter video game developed by Treyarch and Raven Software. This video game is the 6th installment in the Black Ops series and the 17th installment in the overall Call of Duty series.
It was previously revealed that the setting of the upcoming video game would be of 20th Century and would focus towards the geopolitical conflict between US and USSR. It was also reported that the narrative of the Cold War is inspired by actual events. A teaser trailer named, “Know Your History” was posted on YouTube on August 19th in which real video footage from the Cold War era was shown with a voiceover of KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov explaining the tools of fighting a Cold War. The title of the video game was revealed at the end of the two-minute trailer.
According to what has been obtained from the trailer, the players are going to interact with a Soviet spy code-named “Perseus” whose goal was to “subvert the U.S. to ensure Soviet dominance in the arms race.” The description below the trailer read, "Know your history or be doomed to repeat it", indicating an eventful storyline and campaign. The description also mentioned “Verdansk” which happens to be the location of Warzone’s map and was also featured in Modern Warfare. Activision had previously promised that Warzone would be tied to the future Call of Duty video games and it seems like they are keen on keeping their promise.
Activision has been hinting about the setting of the new game long before the official confirmation of the title. Cold War references have been teased and clips from the 1960s were played on the site now and then. This time period of the clips had unofficially confirmed the Cold War setting but the trailer put an end to all rumours and made things official.
The trailer was the first official announcement from Activision after months of teases and rumours but still, no gameplay or cinematics was revealed. What also wasn’t revealed was whether this game would be available on PS4 and Xbox One or it would only be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X owners. Fans throughout the world are hoping for more information regarding this upcoming video game during the bigger, "worldwide reveal" for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War which will happen on August 26th. The game is predicted to be released to the public sometime in October or early November with the introduction of a new Call of Duty: Warzone map, a new zombies mode and a full campaign of its own.
