The console gaming world would now be connected more than ever.  For a very long time, Sony was not open to the idea of letting people play PS4 games with their friends on other platforms. It turned a lot of heads when a cross-play beta for Fortnite a little over a year ago started, and now it's allowing all developers to make use of cross-platform capabilities.

This is brand new information! Developers working on PS4 games have been given the green light to include cross-play, after an internal beta to test out the experience playing across different console platforms, like the PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Cross-play has been a thorn in Sony's sides for a quite a while, as gamers increasingly provided with cross-platform experiences – through Xbox's compatibility with PC and even the Nintendo Switch – people often wonder why Sony hasn't been willing to join in the competition, aside from a few exceptions like Rocket League and Fortnite. But that tide finally appears to be turning.

A lot of people believed that Sony was way too comfortable on its throne ruling the console gaming industry, as it has been releasing back to back SONY exclusive games like God of War, SPIDERMAN, The Last of Us and the Uncharted series. All these games have had great success with many of them enjoying the title of ‘’The Game of the Year’’. With such success with its games, Sony really did not need much effort to break the ice and make its impact on the market.

However, in recent years, the gaming industry has changed a lot, with more and more cross platform games gaining popularity Sony just couldn’t back down without taking its own fair share of the cake.
Over the last 12 months, games such as Rocket League, Player Unknown Battlegrounds, Dauntless, Paladins, Smite and Realm Royale have enabled PS4 cross-play with other consoles.

Xbox One and PC gamers will be able to face off against their PS4 buddies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare later this month too which has excited a lot of people eager to buy the new Call of duty game. Some other games -- including Disc Jam, EVE: Valkyrie, Final Fantasy XIV, and Street Fighter V -- let PS4 and PC gamers play those titles with each other.

Among all the present games which were available for cross-platform, Fortnite has topped the charts for a very long time along with PUBG in the recent times, a lot of people are speculating that after the release of Call Of Duty, charts for the popularity of PUBG and Fortnite will go down as the people passionate about Modern Warfare will surely appreciate the cross-platform feature.

The news about enabling cross-platform gaming was not announced with much hype by Sony itself but it really has a lot of fans excited and happy about the announcement, so are you planning on playing with your friends who own consoles other than a PS4? You should get into planning a match with your friend; now you can finally decide which one of you is actually better.
