After announcing it in December 2016, Naughty Dog and Sony waited till the State of Play Event in September 2019 before finally putting a calendar date on the most anticipated game of the year; The Last of Us Part II will finally be available to play on 21st February 2020.
Moreover, PlayStation also revealed a 3-minute long trailer that had us all on the edge of our seats with every passing second!
The trailer starts off with a scene where we get to see a rare, warmer side of Ellie letting her guard down and expressing her feelings. Gradually, the video progresses to somewhat of a calm pre-chorus before we finally find ourselves amidst the action, bloodshed and one very mysterious, intriguing gunshot that disappears into the dark. But that’s not even the best part.
As Ellie struggles with fighting off a lethal zombie on her own, she gets help from an unknown character behind the scenes, who puts his hand on her mouth, silencing her gruesome screams. She turns around. Goosebumps. A face very familiar to LOU fans, with his NaughtyDog-perfected neckbeard, says, “You think I'd let you do this on your own?"
If you have not figured it out yet, or are having a hard time believing it; See for yourself who that familiar face is!
(Trigger warning: Violence)
The story will take place in Seattle, 5 years after the events of the original Last of Us. Ellie promises to “Kill every last one of them”, taking a stance like that of Arya Stark in a way. One thing is clear: She wants revenge. And she won’t stop until she gets it.
As evident from the rising action in the fast-paced trailer, it is captivating how the Last of Us storywriter Neil Druckmann confirmed earlier that although the prequel was based on the theme of Love, Last of Us Part II will largely revolve around Hate. It will be interesting to see how Naughty Dog executes this contrasting theme.
Recalling the 2017 trailer, Naughty Dog also revealed four new characters: Yara, Lev, Emily and an unnamed character played by voice actress Laura Bailey. Reports also suggest Joel will take the back seat while Ellie of course, stays on the frontline.
The hype of this game can be further indicated by the number of awards it has won before it has even been released! In particular, PlayStation Blog awarded it the Most Anticipated Game of the Year in 2017 and the game bagged Most Anticipated Game award at The Game Awards.
With the advent of new characters, the redemption of old ones and a new and more exciting storyline, the Last of Us is likely to win Game of the Year 2020 as well according to experts and bloggers. Of course, we can never know for sure before the game is finally released in February.
Mark your calendars, get ready for a journey like never before and expect an emotional roller coaster, because The Last of Us Part II will be available to play exclusively on PlayStation 4 on 21-2-2019.
