“Remember, No Russian”
You walk out of the elevator as that Russian accent still echoes in your head, and before you know it, your ‘fellow’ gunmen open heavy fire on innocent civilians, to your utmost surprise! You are still trying to comprehend the situation as turmoil unfolds in Moscow Airport, and civilians wail and scream to save their lives. Within this chaos, you are still faced with the choice of either joining in on the ruthless massacre, give your tacit approval through silence or to let your conscience take over you and shoot one of your own men.
Whichever one of the disturbing paths we took, Call of Duty Modern Warfare brought us the closest most of us have ever come to witnessing such an atrocity first hand. For better or for worse is debatable, but the mission ‘No Russian’ certainly shook the gaming industry in an unprecedented manner.
To the gaming community’s delight, Call of Duty Modern Warfare is returning in the form of a soft reboot on 25th October 2019.
An iconic title and arguable one of the best of all time, developers at Infinity Ward have still managed to further improve and revamp COD MW in a number of ways.
Graphics and Tech Specifications
The first and most obvious improvement comes in the display and graphics department. The game promises gameplay at 60fps and 4K HDR. It will also run on an all-new and significantly more powerful engine, which will support DirectXRayTracing on PC. This indicates hardware real-time raytracing. (Ray tracing is a rendering technique for generating an image by tracing the path of light as pixels in an image plane and simulating the effects of its encounters with virtual objects)
Furthermore, volumetric lighting, advanced photogrammetry, and full Dolby ATMOS support are all technological improvements you can expect to see in the latest edition of Call of Duty!
What’s most exciting is the new and original overhauls in the gameplay. Interestingly enough, the game is heavily inspired by the infamous ‘No Russian’ mission, hence shifts focus towards, "heavy on troubling, realistic emotional moments". The game is likely to be received in a divisive manner by critics, and do not be surprised if it’s on the front page for sparking controversy! Like its predecessor, this Modern Warfare game may also prove to be controversial for a number of reasons.
Fans have long hyped up the campaign mode in particular, which promises intriguing features like giving the user a strategy-based moral choice, for instance, the user would have to determine whether a young woman is rushing towards her baby or reaching for a gun. Accordingly, the player will have to act fast based on whether he/she thinks the civilian is a threat or not, which in turn determines your all-important threat assessment score. Fewer the civilians you kill, better the grade. Stealth is also a further emphasized option, for example, the player can shoot a light bulb to take advantage of the darkness.
In Multiplayer, the room has also been made for a more tactical approach towards the game, focusing on ‘Realism’, map explorations, door breaching and playing with a compass marker style map rather than a HUD.
Moreover, Call of Duty returns with Captain Price, the only character who stayed alive from the legendary trio of Soap, Yuri and Price. However, the character has been edited to a large extent, and even the voice actor has been changed.
The user will be given the opportunity to play with London Metropolitan Police sergeant Kyle Garrick, a former British Army officer, and CIA officer named Alex. These three will take head-on with a Russian general gone rogue. Reports suggest that the antagonist is heavily inspired by Marlon Brando’s Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now.
Players will play in a modern setting of European and the Middle East cities.
If recent real-life political conflicts and warfare interest you, and you wish to experience everything on the frontier of action, pick up the renewed Call of Duty Modern Warfare on 25th October 2019!
