There has been a recent sprint by a lesser known game and even the likes of Shroud and Dr.Disrespect are obsessed with it.
“Escape from Tarkov” brings a unique twist to the FPS genre with it’s super realistic gameplay aspects and high risk- high rewards loop. Battlestate Games, the Russian developers that are responsible for the game, put out the alpha in 2016. Escape from Tarkov is currently in an open-beta phase right now.
What is it?
Escape from Tarkov has a unique open world that’s filled with NPCs, other players and areas that are heavily populated with loot. The gunplay is intense and gritty. The focus to detail is what makes Tarkov different from other FPS games that are out right now. Gunfights are short and tactical, a few bullets are the difference between life and death. The objective of the game is simple, you drop into a map and try to survive till you reach the extraction point. If you survive, the loot that you collect along the way is yours to upgrade your gear and weapons or you can sell it for the in-game currency.
Different ways to play
Tarkov lets you play as multiple characters, one of which is the PMC. The PMC is the main character that you want to upgrade with loot. The PMC can be upgraded with loot acquired while playing other characters as well. The next way to play, is the Scavenger (Scav for short). As a Scavenger, you will drop in a random location with a random gear loadout and your only objective will be to loot as much as possible. While you’re playing as a Scavenger, other NPC Scavs will not attack you.
Why is it suddenly gaining momentum?
Recently, Battlestate Games announced Twitch Drops for Escape from Tarkov which is a big deal for the game. Players tuning in on streamers that have Twitch Drops on can earn items in-game that are worth a lot for the players. Apart from that factor, the likes of Shroud and Dr.Disrespect have taken a liking to the game because of its militaristic nature and hardcore intensity. The developers are keen on providing content for the game and release patches and updates frequently, which is why the player base has been growing consistently for it.
